Depot Street in downtown Winchester was packed Saturday morning as the Winchester-Clark County Farmers’ Market hosted its annual Kids’ Day.

Vendors reported a good turnout for the day, which was the first special event for the 2017 season, with various others planned throughout the summer.

During Kids’ Day, children were given a free plant to take home along with a voucher for $10 to spend at any future market day. There was also face painting and other child-friendly activities.

Upcoming special events include:

— The Clark County Health Department will hand out vouchers to people enrolled in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program June 27.

— The Vegetable Festival will be July 22, which is expected to be the peak of when tomatoes, corn and other vegetables are available.

— The second Farm to Table dinner to benefit the marker will be July 29.

—The fourth-annual Holy Smokes BBQ Festival will be Aug. 12

—The Fall Festival will be Sept. 9, which typically marks the end of the season.

The market, which has grown to include 26 members this year, is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday on Depot Street. Beginning June 20, the market will also be open Tuesday nights.

Vendors sell a variety of products including locally-grown produce, locally-raise meat, coffee, canned products, baked goods and wine.
