The Clark County Public Schools Board (CCPS) of Education will soon be searching for a new member.
Long-time board member and former chair Bill Taulbee announced that he is resigning his seat in a letter to Superintendent Dustin Howard dated Sunday, Jan. 7th.
“I loved serving CCPS. I have met a lot great people and I feel that the past 15 months has been the best time for our district in the five years I have served. I worked very hard this past year to move the district forward, and I feel we are in great shape,” Taulbee wrote in a statement sent to the Sun. “It’s time for me to focus on other interests. I appreciate so many people, and I will miss working with Mr. Howard and the all-star staff he put together. I wish the board and district all the best.”
In his letter to Howard, Taulbee mentioned the accomplishments of the last 15 months, including breaking ground on a new preschool, raises for district staff, moving and renovating the Phoenix Academy, opening The Cardinals Nest daycare center for staff, and approving a new maintenance garage which Conkwright Elementary School will locate.
Taulbee served District 1 and was first elected in 2018. He was reelected in 2022, and there are around three years left in his term.
So, who will replace him?
Well, once the board accepts Taulbee’s resignation, it will have 60 days to fill the open seat via a majority vote from a pool of applicants, per Kentucky law.
The board is required to advertise applications for the open seats for two weeks within 30 days of accepting the resignation.
