Wayne Lee Gerrish, 90, of Winchester, KY passed away on December 28, 2023. He was born on April 21, 1933, in Rockland, Maine, to Eula Barter Gerrish and Harold E. Gerrish.

After graduating from Rockland High School in 1950, Wayne served in the US Army from 1953-1954 during the Korean War. He demonstrated his dedication and commitment to his country during his military service.

Wayne’s passion for sciences led him to earn an undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Maine in Orono and a DMD degree from Tufts University in Boston, MA in 1964. He went on to serve the community of Kennebunk, Maine, as a local dentist from 1965 until 1995. Wayne had a special love for treating children in his practice, leaving a lasting impact on their dental health and personal lives.

Outside of his professional life, Wayne had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed scuba diving, skiing, and woodworking. His carpentry skills, remodeling, and cabinetmaking abilities were self-taught, showcasing his innate intelligence and wide-ranging abilities.

Wayne was a beloved husband to Theda Gerrish of Winchester, Kentucky, and a devoted father to his daughter, Elizabeth Wagner (Mike) of Lexington, KY. He was also a proud grandfather to Micah H. Needham (Nasrin) of Lexington, KY; and Eben G. Needham (Erin) of Bethel Park, PA, and great-grandfather to Grey Needham (18), Gentry Needham (16), Ryan Needham (8), Ana Needham (10 mos.) all of Lexington, KY, and Fife Needham (8) and Cade Needham (5) of Bethel Park, PA.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Barter Gerrish and Harold E. Gerrish, and his precious daughter, Emi-Lee, in 1976. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Gerrish II and Vernon Gerrish, as well as his sisters, Mary G. Smith, Violet Orr, and Beverly Bodman.

Wayne’s memorial service will be held at Clark County Fish and Game Club on January 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm. His legacy as a dedicated dentist, loving husband, father, and grandfather will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
