The George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals softball team has a new skipper.
In a statement posted to the school’s website Monday, GRC announced that former University of Kentucky player Sarah Rainwater will take charge of the program.
“I am very blessed to have been offered such an outstanding opportunity to coach a softball program with a winning history supported by athletic staff and the community,” Rainwater said in the statement.
Rainwater served as an assistant coach for her alma mater, East Jessamine High School, in Nicholasville for the past two seasons. The Lady Jaguars won district and region championships on their way to a Final Four appearance at the 2023 KHSAA State Softball Tournament.
During her four-year career at UK, Rainwater played as an outfielder for the program’s long-time coach, Rachel Lawson, as part of a squad that advanced to three-straight NCAA Super Regionals.
Before her collegiate career, Rainwater was a six-year starter for EJHS and a multiple-time all-district and all-region player.
Rainwater earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in sports learning from UK and is currently pursuing a master’s in teaching from the University of the Cumberlands.
She is excited to build the Lady Cards into championship contenders.
“I look forward to this new challenge with positivity for growth and producing results for the Lady Cardinals,” Rainwater said, “as our goal is to move the program forward into conversations as consistent contenders at the KHSAA State Tournament.”
