GRC boys’ soccer displays offensive firepower during recent hot streak

Since a 2-2 draw against Bishop Brossart, the George Rogers Clark Cardinals (7-4-1) have won four of five matches and are positioned as one of the top teams in the 10th Region.

Coach Nick Vogler’s squad outscored their opponents 30-7 combined over a five-match stretch.

Seniors Clay Turley and PK Vogel each scored a brace in the Cards’ 7-2 road win over Harrison County on Aug. 29. Juniors Caleb Bush and Jack Sotski, and senior Joey Hill also found the back of the net for GRC. Turley, junior Landon Clark, senior Rylan Graves, sophomore Nehemiah Israel and senior Jacob Ebert each had an assist.

On Aug. 31, another Vogel brace helped lead the Cards past Ashland Blazer at home 7-0. Bush, Graves, Turley, freshman Ryan Houchens and junior Cole Horn also netted. Turley led GRC with three assists. Vogel and sophomore Levi Ross also had assists.

GRC fell to Greenwood 4-2 in Bowling Green on Sept. 2 in the Purples Classic. Turley and Horn got GRC on the score sheet. Vogel set up both goals.

A day later, Vogel scored a hat trick and had an assist in a 10-0 victory over Hopkinsville. Turley and Ebert each had a brace. Juniors Ryan Palmer and Gratz McCraith, and Joby Mitmesser rounded out the Cards’ scoring. Horn led GRC with two assists. Bush and McCraith each had an assist.

During a Tuesday matchup at Bourbon County, Turley netted a hat trick and Vogel scored in a 4-1 victory. Junior Hayden Cockrell had an assist.

The Cards play Model on Thursday.
