The defending 40th District Champion George Rogers Clark volleyball squad is off to an impressive start on the young campaign.
The Lady Cardinals (2-1) did not drop a set in victories over Roberton County and Madison Southern and pushed undefeated Sayre to the limit in defeat.
GRC opened the season on Aug. 15 with a dominant road victory over its 10th Region foe, the Robertson County Lady Devils, in straight sets (25-12, 25-6 and 25-15). Senior Kelsey McKeehan contributed 31 assists, five digs and six service aces.
Freshman Mia Pendley had ten kills and two digs.
The Lady Cards captured the first set (25-21) during their road clash with the Sayre Lady Spartans before dropping the following three sets 26-24, 25-15 and 27-25. McKeehan had another big match with 40 assists, 18 digs and four service aces.
Pendley had 16 kills and seven digs. Senior Kamryn Toler racked up 20 digs for the Lady Cards’ cause.
Tuesday, GRC claimed a straight sets victory (25-21, 25-10, 25-23) over the Madison Southern Lady Eagles. McKeehan contributed 19 assists and a service ace. Toler led the team in digs with ten.
The Lady Card take on Harrison County at home on Thursday before traveling on Saturday to Mongomery County to take on Ashland Blazer in the Dink Scott Memorial Tournament.
