Faculty, staff and parents at George Rogers Clark High School took time Monday night to celebrate the academic successes of more than 100 students at its annual senior honors and scholarship awards ceremony.

The event is an opportunity to showcase students at the high school who have been awarded scholarships as they move on to postsecondary education.

Of special note was the National Merit Georgia-Pacific Foundation Scholarship, awarded to Jacob Green.

Guidance counselor Jennifer Mink said the event also gives the opportunity to highlight students finishing their senior years with strong grade-point averages.

“We honor students who have had a 4.0 in the last seven semesters,” she said. “Those students get a certificate and a julep cup.”

She said that this year 38 students were recognized for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Averages of 3.5 to 3.9 are also honored with a certificate, Mink said.

At Monday’s ceremony, 61 students received local scholarships from businesses and community organizations.

Several more students have earned scholarships from the educational institutions they will be attending after graduation, and those who are receiving more than $30,000 and reported their awards to the school by May 1 were recognized Monday.

Three students earned awards for perfect attendance, including Samual Rupard, who maintained perfect attendance from for the entirety of his time at CCPS from kindergarten to grade 12.  

Charlie Miller and Jimmy Miller also were honored for perfect attendance during their entire high school career.
