James “Melvin” Wells, 81

James “Melvin” Wells, 81, husband of Betsy Hacker Wells, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born in Clark County, on September 2, 1941, he was the son of the late Buford and Della Reed Wells. Melvin was a lifelong farmer and retired from Columbia Gas. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves and a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church.

In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, he is survived by his son, Chadwick Alan (Stephanie) Wells; grandchildren, Caroline Taylor Wells and James “Jay” Reid Wells; siblings, Garnetta (Ray) Parker, Lloyd Wells, and Earl (Sheila) Wells; several extended family members and friends.

He was preceded by his parents and siblings, Charlie “Heardin” (Ivory) Wells and Dorothy Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, June 23, 2023, at Scobee Funeral Home by Pastor Kenny Speaks. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Heim, Jay Wells, Clark Bugg, Damien Hall, Paul Bradley, and Gary Allen Taylor.

Visitation will be from 11:00AM until the time of service.
