It’s been said that volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.

Out of pure generosity and good heart people make the time to volunteer for a variety of causes. There are too many even in Clark County to name. From homeless shelters to nursing homes, to tutoring and beyond, there are many organizations and causes that simply couldn’t continue without the work of volunteers.

Wednesday Partners In Education recognized various volunteers who are truly the backbone of that particular organization.

PIE Executive Director said the organization that partners volunteers and businesses with local schools for tutoring and other support opportunities has more than 50 volunteers.

At the award program hosted at Baker Intermediate School, Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham said volunteers greatly benefit the county, and together with Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner proclaimed the week Volunteer Week.

At The Winchester Sun, we fully understand the necessity and great benefit of volunteers in our community.

Which is why we reserve some space each week to recognize those individuals who take the time out of their own lives to help others. So far we have had the pleasure of telling the stories of a therapy dog and her handler, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, a Girl Scout troop leader and many more. We look forward to the opportunity to continue recognizing the community’s volunteers.

During Volunteer Week in Clark County, take a moment to think of someone who gives of their time and thank them, then look into ways that you can become involved in the community as a volunteer, too.
