LTC (retired) Wilson “Mac” Herbert McComas Jr., 83, widower of Pamela Carter McComas passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born August 25, 1939, in Russell, Kentucky to the late Wilson H. McComas Sr. and Ida Louise Stephens. Mac McComas served 26 years in the military with distinction serving as a Provost Marshal at the West Point Military Academy. He served two tours in Vietnam, was a member of the FBI National Academy 103rd Session and was the retired Chief of Police for the University of Kentucky. He was also a member of Central Baptist Church in Winchester.
He is survived by three daughters: Shannon (Dr. Mark A.) Denney, Erin Mishler and Shelley Ferrin; four grandchildren, Tara Louise Blake, Katherine Lee Blake, Sophia Elizabeth Jane Ferrin, and Carson McComas Hudson Ferrin; one brother-in-law, Richard C. Carter II; and one niece, Aimee Carter.
He is proceeded in death by his brother, Charles Bowman (Leandra) McComas.
Services will be at 12:00pm, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Leon Pace Memorial Chapel next to Scobee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brett Alfrey, Carson Ferrin, Glenn Ferrin, Kevin Grimes, Robert Hinkle, and Miles Meehan.
Visitation will be at 10:00am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers contributions to Alzheimer’s Association or Samaritans Purse are requested.
