Cards look to end two-game winless streak

The George Rogers Clark Cardinals are looking to stop a two-game winless streak.
The Cards (6-4-4) take on the Frederick Douglass Broncos (9-0-1) tonight at 8 p.m. in Lexington.
The Broncos enter the match having outscored their opponents 43-8 this season, including Mercer County 4-1 in their last outing. Senior Josh Carr and junior Cooper Ranviver lead the team in scoring with seven goals each.
After a 3-2 shootout victory over district rival Bourbon County, GRC hosted the Bryan Station Defenders (7-3-1) last Thursday.
The Defenders got three goals courtesy of junior Mwanaume Buhari Kadusi and seniors Kendrick Rhodes and Faraja Musafiri to defeat the Cards 3-2. Senior Serge Nkomeza assisted on two of the Defenders’ goals.
The Cards got goals from senior defender/midfielder Max Price and junior striker/midfielder Joby Mittmesser. The goal was the first of the season for Price. Junior midfielder/striker Clay Turley also had an assist.
GRC traveled to Corbin on Saturday and earned a 1-1 draw against the host Redhounds (6-5-1). Stats from the match were not available as of this writing.
Turley leads the team in assists with five and shares the team lead in goals with junior midfielder/forward PK Vogel with six. Senior striker/midfielder Will Carrington has netted five times for the Cards this season.
The Cards return to the field on Thursday in an 8 p.m. home match against the Paris Greyhounds.
