Clark County firefighters were called to the Clark County Animal Shelter Thursday afternoon when a fire was reported in the shelter’s laundry room.
Captain Nathan Whitaker said that the source of the fire is being investigated, but the fire seems to have been caused by an electrical issue involving an aging water heater that caught some nearby blankets on fire.
Whitaker said the room the water heater was in suffered some fire damage, and the ceiling has smoke damage.
He said none of the shelter’s employees, nor the dogs that are kept in the building, were injured.
“No dogs were hurt,” Whitaker said. “The employees did a good job of getting them out. That was their top priority when it happened.”
