Elisabeth (Betsy) Lee Garrett, 91, died April 6, 2022, with her family by her side in Winchester, Kentucky.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church, 250 N Main Street, Winchester, at 3 pm April 16, 2022, with visitation from 1 pm. No flowers, please.
She was born October 4, 1930, in Trenton, NJ, to F.H. Salmon and Elisabeth (Doig) Salmon. She married Cecil Garrett in 1951 and they moved to Winchester in 1960. Cecil was a chemistry professor and academic dean at Southeastern Christian College until its closing in 1979, where Betsy was also briefly employed, and she later held administrative jobs at the University of Kentucky.
Betsy was an active member of the Belmont Church of Christ, Winchester, and the Winchester Music Club.
Her interests included hosting, cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother-in-law, mother and her husband’s grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil; her children and their spouses, Robert (Suzanne), Dale, Mark (Candy), Mary Lynn Houtz and Jonathan (Rozalia), 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Lucilla Garrett, and her son-in-law, Frank Houtz, and her grandchildren, Israel Houtz, Qavah Houtz and Naomi Ruth Garrett.
