Track Cards claim first, second at Harrison

The George Rogers Clark High School track team has competed in track meets at Harrison County High School since the 70s.
Last week, the Cardinals finally came away with a win.
Coach Dodd Dixon said the boys have defeated Harrison at neutral tracks but never in Cynthiana, which they did Thursday night.
The Cardinals scored 100.5 points to win first place at the eight-team meet, barely edging out Mason County, who scored 97 overall points. Harrison took third at 87.5.
GRC’s Joseph Happy won the 100m dash with a time of 11.82, just beating JB Hoskins (Holmes), who took second with a 11.84 time. GRC’s Tre’von Jones finished third with a time of 11.93.
Happy and Jones, along with Nitavious Thomas and Caleb Wilson, won the 4x200m relay.
Wilson finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 57.50.
Jones, Thomas, Happy and AJ Connor took second in the 4x100m relay.
Cody Cooper won the 800m run thanks to a time of a 2:20.65.
Jonathan Reitral’s time of 50.73 in the 300m hurdles earned him second place in the event.
Cord Tacket finished third in the 1600m run for Clark.
Blake Jernigan won second play in the shot put while Isaiah Carpenter finished fourth.
Girls finish second
The GRC girls track team edged out Bourbon County, scoring 77 points against the Colonels’ 72, for second place in the Harrison event.
Mason County ran away with first place, scoring 130 points.
Makenzie Cooper gave the Cards a big lift, winning the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.13. She also won the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.44. Teammate Skylar Carmichael finished third in the event.
Rachel Puckett finished second in the 800m run.
The Cardinals now prepare for their ‘home event.’ They will host the GRC Heavy Metal Throwdown at Transylvania University Saturday.
