Leeds Center for the Arts announced its 2022-23 season during a recent Winchester Rotary Club meeting.

“Leeds Center for the Arts is an arts space that has been part of the fabric of our community’s history for over 90 years,” said Ellie Miller, Leeds’ director of Marketing and Outreach, said during a presentation last Friday to the Rotary members gathered at Woody’s Sports Bar & Grill. “We strive to energize and educate the community through the beauty and emotional power of the arts.”

Leeds serves not only as a cultural organization, but a community gathering place.

“We offer theatrical performances, concerts, art galleries, and educational programs,” Miller said. “Most importantly, we work diligently to provide a safe space where children can learn to lead, discover their voice, and are valued for their uniqueness. As a nonprofit organization, our ability to continue to operate is due in large part to the generous support of individual donors who believe in our mission.”

Theatre’s season theme is a family affair.

“Whether it be stories of chosen family or blood relatives, all of these stories celebrate you, our Leeds family,” a post on the center’s Facebook page reads.

The season is comprised of four shows: “The Addams Family”, “Newsies Jr,”, “Peter and the Starcatcher”, and “Little Women”.

“The Addams Family” will run Aug 15-28. The musical tells the tale of America’s favorite ghoulish family coming to terms with changes to their macabre world.

“Newsies Jr.” hits the stage Nov. 4-13 and is an abridged version of a Disney show that chronicles the lives of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City.

“Peter and the Star Catcher” runs from Feb. 24 to March 3, 2023 and is a stage adaption of the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson that serves as a prequel to “Peter Pan”.

“Little Women” closes out the season and runs from May 5-14, 2023. The play is an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s timeless coming-of-age story about four sisters.
