Got to give a shout-out to assistant coach and former GRC head coach Larry Allison, who won four region championships. and assistant coaches Darren Snell, Brett McAlpin, Tim Gibson, and Will Padget.
Though last season’s record was 16-17 and capped off by a loss in the 1st round of the district tourney, Cards are optimistic about the season ahead. Season opens Monday at home against South Laurel.
“The goal is for us to be ready to play on March 21, but the long term goal is for us to get better and better for the next three months to be at our best come May for postseason,” Varney said. “The overall goal will always be the same, compete for a Regional title every year and make a run in the state tournament. We just want to get better every day and play hard every day. We feel like we have a talented group of kids that can put us in a position to reach our goals.”
