The Clark County Board of Education unanimously voted Tuesday night to approve schematics for a new athletic complex at George Rogers Clark high School.
According to Director of Operations Donald Stump, the schematics will be sent to the Kentucky Department of Education for approval before the board can enter the next phase of project design, where the district will be able to prepare to bid construction services.
The plans include a 60,000-square-foot facility to house a gymnasium with seating for about 4,000 people in addition to locker rooms and rooms for arts and humanities and health education. The plans also include a multi-purpose room that will be used by the school’s JROTC cohort.
Additionally, designs include fields for baseball, football, softball, track and field and tennis courts, as well as a practice field.
As planned, the facilities are estimated to cost between $20-$25 million, to be funded through bonding.
The schematics are still preliminary, and can be altered during the project design phase as the board sees fit.v
