Business group holds 81st annual meeting

Tammy Moberly of Clark Energy is the president of the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce for 2021.

Moberly, who succeeds Lauren Frazer of Clark County Farm Bureau Insurance, who introduced as the new president during the chamber’s 81st annual meeting Thursday at the Winchester Opera House.

“Tammy has a true giving and selfless heart. She’s here to help you and this organization thrive as your president,” Frazer said.

Moberly has a long record of volunteer service to community organizations, including the Clark County Homeless Coalition, Community Services, the Animal Shelter and Junior Achievement, to name a few.

She is the lead administrative technician for the electric cooperative, where she has worked for 23 years.

Moberly said the role of the group’s leaders in serving its members as being to advocate, communicate and educate.

Cindy Banks, executive director of the chamber, told the new board members gathered at the Opera House that the business group is “a network of business people” created to promote the interests of its members.

At the end of 2020, it had 362 members, and four-fifths of its businesses have fewer than 10 employees. Its board consists of 18 volunteers who represent the organization.

According to Greg Yates, treasurer, the chamber has a budget of $131,000, and most of its funding comes from membership dues, corporate sponsorships, an annual golf tournament and other activities.

Yates and other committee chairs spoke about the committees they head and what they do.

As outgoing president, Frazer gave a review of the chamber for the year past.

The year was not “everything any of us had hoped for,” she said, because of the coronavirus pandemic, but it was not without its successes. It added 65 new members, compared to 37 for 2019 and had its most successful golf scramble ever. It celebrated 10 ribbon cuttings and contributed thousands of dollars, supporting causes from Project Graduation to Achieving Recovery Together.

“The way the community rallied together and supported one another was one of my favorite takeaways from last year,” she said.

And by going digital, it was able to extend its reach.

“2020 created a virtual world that allowed us to stay connected” and reach thousands online rather than those gathered in one place.
