COVID-19 has claimed its 19th victim in Clark County.

The local Health Department on Tuesday confirmed the death of a 75-year-old man and said that coronavirus disease was a contributing factor.

It was the first COVID-related death in the county since Dec. 15.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this family during this very difficult time,” Public Health Director Becky Kissick said in a statement.

Also on Tuesday, the Clark County Health Department reported 25 new cases of COVID-19, yielding a local incidence rate of 41.21, which is in the red, or critical, category.

The county has seen 57 new COVID cases since the weekend. The Health Department reported 13 Saturday, nine Sunday and 10 Monday as well as the 25 Tuesday.

Seventeen individuals have met criteria for release as of Tuesday.

The Health Department is working 235 active cases of the total 2,218 cases in the county.

In his press conference Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 2,443 new cases, 1,335 hospitalizations and 32 new deaths.

In total, 3,812 Kentuckians have died of the virus,
