As patients recover from COVID-19 or other debilitating illnesses and conditions, many find themselves with a variety of impairments and levels of deconditioning that may emerge immediately or over time.
COVID patients after they no longer test positive for the illness can experience symptoms including fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle weakness, impaired mobility and functional limitations.
KORT, an outpatient physical and occupational therapy provider with locations throughout Kentucky, including two in Winchester, will offer a virtual event, a KORT Lunch ‘n’ Learn recovery and reconditioning program, at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, to discuss options the company offers for developing a plan of care specific to patients’ diagnosis, needs and goals.
The class will be led by physical therapist Paige Bradley of the KORT clinic on Shoppers Drive in Winchester.
Anyone who would like to participate in the program should RSVP to Holly Ratliff at hratliff@kort.com to sign up and get access to the meeting via Zoom.
The meeting is free and will last about 20 to 30 minutes.
“It was created for COVID patients, but it’s available for anybody” who wants to participate, Ratliff said.
The company decided to do virtual meetings at several locations, including Winchester, Versailles and Richmond because so many people are under quarantine or avoiding going out as much, she said. It could be helpful to those with COPD or other conditions, she mentioned.
KORT offers physical therapy at its clinics, including those in Winchester, but there are also telerehab and rehab-at-home options available.
Ratliff said KORT’s rehab programs are covered by commercial insurance and Medicare.
