On Thanksgiving Eve, the Clark County Health Department reported the county’s 14th COVID-related death, which was also the second one within seven days.

The deceased was a 90-year-old man and not a resident of a long-term care facility.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this very difficult time,” Public Health Director Becky Kissick said in a statement Wednesday night included in her daily evening report. She said his death was the 14th locally “in which COVID has been identified as a contributing factor.”

On Nov. 19, the Health Department had reported “the a heavy heart” the death of another COVID-19 victim, a 32-year-old father and members of the community.

The younger man’s death was the first reported since July 12 when a resident of a long-term care facility was reported.

Nine of the 14 Clark County residents who have died and for whom COVID-19 has been a contributing factor have been Fountain Circle nursing home residents.

On Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 26 new deaths from the coronavirus in the state, and for Thanksgiving Day, he reported 32 more, the second highest number of COVID-related deaths this year. 

Thursday’s 3,870 new cases of COVID-19 was the highest single-day number of cases for the year. Thirteen of them were from Clark County.
