Leeds Center for the Arts recently announced the two recipients of the 2020 Vanessa Rogers Scholarship: Galen Arnett and Alexandra Brown.
“These students were chosen out of a large pool of applicants for their dedication to their craft, determination and self-motivation to meet their goals and demonstration of collaboration, all qualities Vanessa Rogers championed in her students,” according to a press release from the historic arts center located in downtown Winchester.
Each student received a $500 scholarship .
“We would like to thank our selection committee, Bo List, Steve Crosby and Becky Mozingo, and our wonderful donors for making the Vannessa Rogers Scholarship Fund a reality,” the release states.
Brown is a freshman at Howard University pursuing a bachelor of fine arts in musical theatre. Since childhood she has dedicated her time to studying music and performance. For the last four years she has been a voice major at the School for Creative and Performing Arts at Lafayette.
Arnett is a freshman at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music pursuing a bachelor of fine arts in acting. For the past nine years, Galen’s passion has been acting, and Leeds has been the catalyst, performing almost 20 shows at Leeds Center for the Arts over the years. When not acting, he also enjoys singing, jewelry making, photography, piano and cooking.
