Another Clark County resident has died because of complications of the coronavirus.

The Health Department reported the death, which is the seventh in the county, Sunday evening.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, the individual was a resident of the long-term care facility at Fountain Circle.

Additionally, one new case of the virus, involving a 63-year-old male, was reported over the weekend, and four new cases were reported Monday.

The Health Department also reported that five more people have met criteria for recovery, bringing the total recovered as of Monday afternoon to 130 of the 171 local cases.

The department is still working 31 active cases, which includes four residents of Fountain Circle and 27 community members.

The majority of local cases have been in the 70 to 79 age range, with more than 30 cases reported among that age range. The fewest cases have been reported in the 30 to 39 range, with about 10 cases in that range.

Sixty percent of the local cases have involved women, with 40 percent involving men.

The most cases were reported during the week of June 14, when the county began seeing a spike after numerous patients and employees at the Fountain Circle nursing and rehabilitation home contracted the virus.

In Kentucky, there have been 19,653 positive cases and 629 deaths as of Monday evening.

Gov. Andy Beshear reported 730 new cases over the weekend, including 277 cases Sunday and 453 cases Saturday.

He also reported two deaths Saturday and three deaths Sunday.

Comparing cases reported from June 29 to July 5 with cases reported from July 6 to July 12, there is a 48.7 percent increase in positive cases, according to a press release from the Governor’s Office.

In a daily press briefing Monday, Beshear reported 277 new cases in Kentucky and four new deaths, bringing the total to 629.

He also reported that the state, “continues to see a rise in cases of children under 5,” and that 11 of the new cases reported Monday involved children between 4 months and 5 years.

Statewide, the majority of cases have been among the 20 to 29 age range, with nearly 3,500 cases reported in that range. However, the majority of deaths have been among the 80 or older population, with at least 318 deaths reported in that range, followed by 151 deaths reported in the 70 to 79 range and 100 in the 60 to 69 range.

About three of every four cases have involved white Kentuckians, according to a report issued by the Governor’s Office Sunday. About 14 percent of cases involved black Kentuckians, with 6 percent involving multi-racial Kentuckians and about 3.5 percent involving Asian Kentuckians.

The majority of cases have involved residents of Jefferson County, where Louisville is located, with at least 4,561 cases reported, and neighboring Fayette County, where Lexington is located, with 1,834 cases reported. Jefferson County accounts for about 23 percent of total cases in Kentucky, while Fayette accounts for about 9.5 percent of the total cases statewide.

Also in his daily press briefing Monday, Beshear reported that so far, there have been 20 day care staff and nine children in day care facilities across the state test positive since those facilities were allowed to reopen June 15.

Long-term care facilities continue to add a significant number of cases, with 2,117 residents and 1,090 staff testing positive. There have been 409 deaths reported involving patients in long-term care facilities. Those numbers involved 221 facilities in Kentucky.
