It’s that time again for us to make a plea to our readers and our community to hit the polls.
The primary election, which was originally scheduled for May, was pushed back to June 23 because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Amid the global pandemic, hitting the polls looks drastically different this year.
Many of you have already voted by requesting and filling out an absentee ballot, which became an option because of the pandemic. That process was simple, with it taking less than a minute to request a ballot and barely more time to fill it out and send it back in (whether by mail or dropping it off at the Clark County Clerk’s Office).
The deadline to request an absentee ballot has passed, but ballots can still be filled out and mailed in. Those must be postmarked by 6 p.m. June 23.
Others can vote early by making an appointment to vote in-person at the Clark County Courthouse. Voters will need to call the County Clerk’s Office at 745-0280, extension 3, and request an appointment.
There is still an option to vote on Tuesday. The one polling location in Clark County will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Campbell Junior High School on Boone Avenue. Election workers must all wear masks, and voters are asked to do the same.
Unlike past years, we likely won’t know who won these elections for at least a week. Election results must be certified by June 30.

These are strange and difficult times, but your votes matters as much now as ever.
If you’re feeling powerless to all that is going on in our country these days, the one thing you can do to promote positive change in our country, our state and our community is vote.
Thousands of people in our own community take for granted this right and responsibility each year.
We encourage you not to do that this year. Take full advantage of what it means to have the freedom to elect your representation.
