Two more Clark County residents have died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to the Clark County Health Department, a 91-year-old woman died Friday and a 77-year-old old woman died Saturday.

COVID-19 was listed as a contributing factor in both deaths, according to the department.

Both women were residents at Fountain Circle Health and Rehabilitation, as was the county’s only other COVID-related death, a 77-year-old woman who passed away June 5.

One new COVID-19 case was reported Saturday, a 32-year-old male. No new COVID-19 cases were reported Friday, leaving the county with 81 total cases. Of those, 42 were considered as active cases, according to the department, after nine patients met the criteria to be recovered.

Further information was not released citing health privacy laws.

According to Fountain Circle’s COVID update phone message, 42 residents of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Friday. Twenty of those were diagnosed in the last two weeks, but none in the last 24 hours.

Another 21 employees tested positive as well, including 11 in the last two weeks. There were no new staff diagnoses in the last 24 hours.

In all, two residents and six staff members at Fountain Circle have recovered, according to the message.

Government offiicials have said all who die after being diagnosed with COVID-19 are to be counted as COVID-19-related deaths.

As of Friday afternoon, Gov. Andy Beshear said there have been 12,166 positive cases in Kentucky and 497 deaths statewide, after 331 new cases were reported. According to the Governor’s Office, 418 Kentuckians are hospitalized with the virus, including 67 in the ICU. Approximately 3,390 people have recovered.
