The George Rogers Clark High School boys soccer team has turned an 0-5-1 start to the season into a 5-5-2 record on the season with a chance to sit atop the 39th District standings.

The Cardinals go into Tuesday’s contest with Bourbon County with the top seed in the district tournament on the line.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Strode Station Elementary, with senior night festivities planned for just before the game begins.

The Cards are undefeated over their past six games, including one victory and a tie in the Smoky Mountain Cup in Gatlinburg, Tenn. over the weekend.

GRC blanked Corbin, 3-0, in the first game. Clayton Parks scored on an Evan Carrington assist midway through the first half.

Parks scored again just five minutes into the second half on an Alex Tyler assist.

Carrington put in the third goal with 15 minutes left in the game.

In the second game, the Cardinals faced a familiar foe. GRC had defeated Somerset in the Bluegrass State Games then lost to the Briar Jumpers just three games into the season.

The game in Tennesse didn’t settle anything as the teams battled to a scoreless tie.

“The defense posted another shutout,” GRC coach Walter Ridener said. “The midfield stepped up and played well while missing Josh Bailey. I feel like we still out-played them, but couldn’t find the back of the net.”
