John Bodnar was born December 27, 1930 in Mckeesport, Pennsylvania, the son of Anna and George Bodnar Sr. and passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 in Lexington, Kentucky.

Beatrice C. (Bebe), his wife and beloved companion of forty-nine years, went to eternal rest February 29, 2004 in Pennsacola, Florida while traveling in their motorhome. Traveling, outdoor recreation and social entertaining were some of their main enjoyments.

He graduated in 1948 from Bristolville, Ohio high school and was employed by Republic Steel Corp., Niles, Ohio until he entered the Army in April 1952. His two-year active duty time involved electronics and guided missile systems training and instruction at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

He was employed as a Department Of Army Civilian after his transfer to the Ohio Army Reserve in April 1954 for six years. He was involved in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Cleveland, Ohio Air Defense Guided Missile Systems deployments and support maintenance until June 1971. He joined the Army Maintenance Board, Fort Knox, Kentucky retiring March 1986 in Winchester, Kentucky after thirty-four years of military and Federal service receiving numerous awards and commendations as a Supervisory Logistics Management Specialist Officer.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Susanna Sutliff and his brother, George Bodnar Jr. His remaining family includes, neice Florence Ann (Darrell) Kellar and daughter Alyssa, Youngstown, Ohio; nephew John (Ted) Sutliff, Bristolville, Ohio; niece Annie (Donald) Brooks and sons Bryan and John, Cortland, Ohio; and niece Nanine (Burt) Cifrulak, McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.

John is a Kentucky Colonel with memberships in First Christian Church, Disciples Of Christ, Winchester, Kentucky; lifetime member of Good Sam Club; National Retired and Active Federal Employees (NARFE); and supporter of Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch; and Kentucky State Police.
