Baker Intermediate School’s theater program is bringing the magic to town this weekend.
A cast of more than 60 fifth and sixth graders will present Disney’s “Frozen Jr.” with shows at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Campbell Junior High School’s auditorium, 620 Boone Ave.
Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for children, and can be purchased at the door or by emailing emily.daniels@clark.kyschools.us.
The show is directed by Ian Ferrell and Katie Berner, and is based on the 2018 musical.
“Frozen Jr.” brings to life the story of sisters and princesses Anna and Elsa, along with all the popular songs from the animated film.
Elsa has been forced to keep her magical powers secret for years, from everyone including her younger sister, Anna.
On the day of Elsa’s coronation, her secret is revealed and she flees to the mountains outside the land of Arendelle.
Anna, with the help of some new friends and an old one, must make the trek to find and save and her sister.
The show tells a story of true love and acceptance between sisters.
Ferrell said the show was an easy one to select for this year’s production at BIS.
“It’s Frozen,” he said. “Everyone loves Frozen. We also knew it would be a big show that would offer a lot of roles for our students. It is very popular and we knew that would draw some interest to the show as well.”
Ferrell said the show also offered some welcomed challenges for the cast and crew, with more technical endeavors.
“We have to bring the magic to life on stage,” he said.
For the first time, a BIS musical will also feature color guard choreography as well, Ferrell said. BIS assistant principal Stacey Moore is a professional color guard choreographer and developed some of the choreography for show.
The cast began rehearsals in September and has grown tremendously since then, Ferrell said.
“The show has really come together,” he said. “They have put in a lot of hours.”
Audiences can expect to see what Ferrell considers a Broadway-worthy show.
“The community will get to see 60 of the most talented kids in the community,” he said.
