Homeless Coalition thanks community for giving

When Clark County Homeless Coalition Executive Director Terry Davidson sent out an email blast Tuesday afternoon asking for people to adopt adults for Christmas, she didn’t expect so many responses to come so quickly.
“Every adult was adopted in less than an hour,” Davidson said.
Fourteen adults will now receive Christmas gifts thanks to the generosity of the community. The wish list for each person is pajamas, slippers, nice candy, maybe a nail kit, warm winter socks, a small ($5-10) gift card to Speedway or Dairy Queen.
Davidson said, and once people realized every adult was adopted, community members then offered to bring Christmas snacks, dinner and fill any other needs for the coalition.
“I’m just really proud of our community, not just at Christmas time but year round to make things happen,” she said.
In past years, there was a specific group or church that stepped up to adopt the coalition’s adults, but this year, it just didn’t happen, Davidson said.
“Everyone’s been caught off guard,” she said. “Everything was all happening so quickly.”
CCHC has celebrated Christmas every year since its inception as everyone deserves Christmas, Davidson said.
“Some of our clients literally have no one,” she said.
As 2020 approaches, Davidson said she hopes the giving spirit continues as the needs of the Coalition don’t stop once the holidays are over.
“The need doesn’t change year round, and we’re so blessed to have such wonderful, giving community which makes it possible to help people.”
