More than 900 people signed up for this year’s Operation Happiness.

Clark County Community Services Director Debbie Fatkin said volunteers prepared 1,200 boxes for The Day of Giving as people who didn’t register had an opportunity Wednesday to stop in; Fatkin said some boxes will also be delivered today to Brown Proctor Apartments, Beverly P White Towers, Ark of Mercy, the Beacon of Hope Emergency Shelter, the Clark County Homeless Coalition and more.

For decades, the annual event has provided hundreds of Clark County residents with a holiday meal and coats.

Registration opened in November. This year, families received a box of food including a turkey breast, stuffing, rolls and brownies along with household staples including eggs, macaroni and cheese, laundry detergent and toilet paper. Each member of the family also received a winter coat, Fatkin told The Sun.

In past years, families had been able to pick up their food box  or leftover boxes the following day. That practice had to end, she said, partly because of a lack of storage.

Those registered also received a chili lunch provided by local churches and homemakers groups.
