Shop With A Cop set for Sunday

For the 27th year, Clark County’s law enforcement community and a team of volunteers will take hundreds of children shopping for Shop With A Cop.
The annual event, organized by Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 34, will be at 7 a.m. Sunday.
Lodge President Lee Murray said the lodge is planning on shopping with about 200 children Sunday morning at the Winchester Walmart.
“Each child gets $125,” Murray said. “They shop for clothes first. Whatever they have left, we let them got a toy or two.”
Murray said the children are selected by the family resource centers in the county schools.
Numbers are down this year, as are corporate donations, he said.
A year ago, the lodge was expecting about 320 children to participate.
“The community has really pulled through,” he said.
The recommended children are screened to make sure they aren’t getting help elsewhere so everyone has a good Christmas, Murray said previously.
Besides the lodge members, other groups participate in the event and help the children shop, including the bass team and cheerleaders from George Rogers Clark High School, Murray said
