George Rogers Clark’s girls basketball team traveled to Independence Monday night to take on a physical Simon Kenton Lady Pioneers team.

The Lady Cards got behind early and weren’t able to climb out of the hole they were in.

Down 51-31 by halftime, GRC would have to make something happen to have a chance to come home with a win against one of the state’s top teams.

In the second half, GRC turned up their defense and was able to cut the Lady Pioneers lead to as few as 12 points, partly thanks to Erica Berry’s three 3-pointers in the third quarter, but weren’t able to get in any closer.

The Lady Cardinals are back in action Saturday when they take on Scott High. Scott is currently winless as they await the return of Mya Meredith, one of the region’s top players. Meredith went down with a knee injury in the first quarter of Scott’s season opener.
