George Rogers Clark’s boys basketball team held a three-game event Saturday that saw six teams come in for The Showcase.
Clark County’s team played the final game of the afternoon, a matchup against the Floyd Central Jaguars.
The Cardinals were able to get off to an early lead they would never look back from.
After GRC scored the first seven points of the game, the Jaguars called a timeout to regroup, but it gave the Cards an opportunity to get senior Lincoln Bush going.
Bush had his best game of the season against Floyd Central, and it began with an 11-point first quarter that also saw him swat multiple shots on the defensive end.
“When he plays with the motor he can he’s as good as any big in our region and in this area. He can block shots, he’s got a good touch. When he runs the floor, he’s going to get a lot of good looks because he’s so athletic,” GRC head coach Josh Cook said. “It was definitely good to get him going today, I think it’s going to be good for his confidence. He was in foul trouble against Campbell County but when he plays like he did today, he’s a heck of a player.
Bush wasn’t the only Cardinal who had success against the Jaguars. Starters Jared Wellman, Jerone Morton and KJ Rucker all had double-digit points. Jeremiah Mundy-Lloyd, the fifth starter, finished with eight points. But Cook was most impressed with how they got the rest of their team involved.
Reed Johnson, Trent Edwards, Sammy Hernandez and John Gwynne all made big contributions off the bench. Every Cardinal was able to see action in the game for the first time this season.
“I thought we played unselfish. Every now and then you have to sacrifice what you do for the benefit of the team,” Cook said. “I thought our guys did a good job getting other guys involved and hopefully that depth and experience will pay off for us long term.”
Clark County was able to score a season-high 90 points in their 39-point victory against the Jaguars.
The Cardinals are back in action Tuesday as they travel to Madison Central to take on the 2-1 Indians.
