A more than two-decade-old tradition continues this weekend in Winchester.
The Winchester Chorale will once again perform two concerts for the public to usher in the holiday season.
The Chorale will present “Home for Christmas” at 2:30 p.m. nightly Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at First Christian Church, 24 E. Hickman St.
Both concerts are free, but donations will be accepted.
This year, the chorale will be joined by special guests, Peace of Bluegrass Band.
Mike Dunn returns for the third year as director for what he calls a “feel good concert.”
Dunn said the Chorale, which consists of more than 40 vocalists this year, began practices in September.
Dunn said the show will feature music that will help the audience recall the special feelings of Christmas from childhood — feelings of warmth and belonging.
The show will consists of numerous songs, including “Dan Forrest’s luscious ‘Carol of Joy,’ the tenderness of ‘The Road Home by Stephen Paulus,’ Stacey Gibbs’ spirited arrangement of ‘Go Tell it On the Mountain’ and Audrey Snyder’s playful reworking of ‘White Christmas.’”
“There are times when we all have felt lost and alone with no one to turn to,” Dunn said. “It’s a cold and terribly lonely place to be. We hope our concert will help us recall the joy and happiness from our childhood that has always been at the core of our being. May we all come home this Christmas, to the place where we feel safe, and with the people we love. As the text from one of our pieces states, ‘Rise up, follow me, come away is the call, with the love in your heart as the only song. There is no such beauty as where we belong.’”
