What type of business would you like to see come to Winchester?
— Chris Newman: “Permanently block off Main Street and take it back to cobble stone. Plant trees and add benches. Throw in a few restaurants where you can have some outdoor seating. Maybe get an ice cream parlor or candy shop. You would have a great venue for live music, art shows, tourism etc.”
— Michelle Blackburn: “Restaurants with healthier options, sit down and carry out/drive-through. Just no more fast food chains.”
— Nicole Johnson: “Just a NICE restaurant. I took my dad out to dinner for his Birthday and drove all the way to hamburg. I took my money somewhere else. Your choices for sit down are pretty much Mexican or Chinese. Listen I love me some tacos, but sometimes ya’ need a good steak.”
— Linda Greiser Rector: “The north end is a food desert – we need a grocery store (like Aldi’s). We really miss having a bowling alley. A bike trail would be great. Maybe Rails to Trails could be completed! An outdoor swimming pool over by Veteran’s Park.”
— Michelle Watts Ethington: “It would be nice to have some things in the downtown area, north end of town. If you want anything you have to drive all the way across town. A mini mall, Raisin’ Canes, Big Lots, Bath & Body Works, Gabe’s clothing store, Aldi’s or Trader Joe’s.”
— Molly Stotts: “If I could I’d open a year round downtown market that sells local products, and add a healthy food deli with real food/bread etc – love our downtown! Please not a mall, dollar store or anything that would take folks away from downtown!”
— Adam Griggs: “Something for kids bounce house or something i take my kids to Lexington atleast every other week to monkey joes, one of trampoline places, kids place, Malibu jacks, or gattitown. Bowling, concert venue like Manchester music Hall, nicer bar and grills, sad choices for good food here in Winchester can’t even get decent steak here. Other then groceries, occasional fast food and gas I barely spend any money in Winchester anymore.”
— Caitlin Carroll: “Some kind of pet store/ pet supply store. Hate having to travel to Lexington to get pet food and supplies. Also a family fun center.”
— Rachel Peyton: “Skating rink with laser tag!! Something for all ages. Kids and teens need this! Let’s give them something entertaining!! Maybe add an arcade inside as well and a snack area bar!!”
— Martha Blevins: “I would like to see a indoor farmer’s market where vendors could sell there home grown items and Ky proud items all year round. Someone could tear down and use the old IGA bld. It’s right on the location where the outdoor one is.”
— Nelda Conkwright: “An outdoor pool like Paradise Cove in Richmond because there aren’t any outdoor pools in Winchester!”
— Ronda Simmons: “Bowling Alley, Outdoor Aquatic Center, Skating Rink, Go Cart Facility, New York & Company, Old Navy, Burlington. Outback Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, Cheddars. There is absolutely nothing to do here in Winchester, no where to eat and no where to shop. I spend the bulk of my money in Lexington. There’s no where to buy men’s suits for a reasonable price or dress shoes! We have to do better.”
— Angie Wiggins: “Family activities such as skating rink, bowling alley, arcades and such. And open the drive in back up. When I was little we had all these things and it was a blast. We definitely need more family / kid friendly activities.”
— Angela Berry: “I would love to see more fun stuff and activities for the whole family. Like a bowling alley, skating rink, laser tag, etc. We need the Eugene Gay Swim Complex to rebuilt with a pool and splash pad or a whole water park. We have been waiting for years with nothing being done. Also we need more sit down restaurants like Cracker Barrel, Cheddars, TGIFridays, Ramsey’s, Texas Roadhouse, Chilli’s we need a variety of places. This could open up doors for so many jobs, and draw more people to Winchester. This would also help our city economically. We just have to think outside the box and get out of our comfort zones.”
