Nicholas Vogler and his George Rogers Clark Cardinals hit the road Thursday night to take on their 10th Region rival, the Paris Greyhounds.
With GRC sitting in second place in the region and Paris in second-to-last, the Cardinals hoped they would be able to kick off their first of seven consecutive road games with a win.
They did just that, coming back with an 8-2 victory.
Taylan Hayes got the scoring started with a penalty kick, his first goal of the game and his first since Aug. 17. Hayes also scored another goal on an assist from Trevon Curtis.
Curtis, Joe Dolen, Ben Riley and Emidio Figueroa each scored one goal and Nathan Sidwell scored two.
GRC is only behind undefeated Harrison County, who has only allowed two goals so far this season, in the region standings.
The team’s leading scorer, Brandon Beltran, was out once again after being injured in the loss to Corbin on Labor Day. Beltran has scored 11 goals in the seven games he’s played this season, good enough for 27th in the state.
In his absence, the team has gone 2-0-0.
The Cardinals will take the weekend off of games before their road trip continues on Tuesday when they travel to Alexandria to take on Bishop Brossart in another 10th Region matchup.
Bishop Brossart is 4-5-1 overall on the season, but 3-0-0 in region games so far.
Bishop Brossart’s biggest strength is their goalie, Andrew Paulin, who has four shutouts in his nine games this season
The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
