GenCanna will officially open its first-ever wellness shop and center downtown.
Barbie Filburn-Miranda, who runs special projects at GenCanna, said the new store, Forty Six + Two, will be a great addition to downtown.
Filburn-Miranda conceptualized the store and will operate it. Forty-Six & Two is GenCanna’s hemp-derived products store.
“This will be the only place you can purchase GenCanna products in store,” she said. “We are glad to be a part of this community.”
The store will have a soft opening tonight during a summer kickoff party beginning with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. at 18 W. Lexington Ave. The celebration will continue with live music, a free photo booth, giveaways, a bounce house, refreshments and more.
The Forty-Six & Two store invites individuals who want to improve themselves through the integration of hemp-based products into their daily life. The concept of the store is that hemp-based products and CBD can help support individuals to reach their highest physical and emotional potential through health and wellness.
The Forty-Six & Two store will carry a variety of hemp-based products from Kentucky brands associated with GenCanna including tinctures, creams and more. In the future, the store will offer food and beverage hemp products and also products derived from hemp fiber and seed but will begin today with T-shirts and hats.
“It’s been a real need in our community,” Filburn-Miranda said.
The work of famed psychiatrist Carl Jung, new age mystic Drunvalo Melchizedek and a popular song by the band Tool inspired the name and concept of the store.
The term “46 & 2” is a theoretical competition of chromosomes (46 & 2) that results in higher consciousness; the next level of evolution on a spiritual and emotional level.
Filburn-Miranda said her interpretation of the name Forty Six + Two is it means reaching the highest potential, and hemp and CBD can be a part of someone reaching their highest potential.
“It can help them reach their own ‘forty six and two,” she said.
The highlight of the store will be its locally-made From KY brand, which GenCanna will only sell in the Winchester store.
“The brand is an homage to our GenCanna farmers and partners,” she said.
Over the years GenCanna has given away lots of product to individuals who believe they benefit from its unique Kentucky based formulations, she said. GenCanna frequently receives requests from these people wanting to purchase the product. Until now, GenCanna had not had a mechanism in place that would allow for retail sales. From KY is the solution, Filburn-Miranda said.
The only place to buy From KY product is at the Forty-Six & Two store. However, if individuals live out of the area and would like to purchase From KY product, they may do so by calling the store and ordering over the phone. The store will then ship them their purchase.
Forty Six + Two officially opens at 10 a.m. Monday, May 21. It will operate Monday through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Besides selling products, Forty Six + Two plans to eventually offer educational courses and wellness classes such as judo and more.
“There’s a lot of potential with what we can do in the future,” Filburn-Miranda said.
The first set of classes begin in June.
Forty Six + Two is hosting a CBD Cocktails class from 7 to 9 p.m. June 20. It is the first of a five-class summer series. Participants can enjoy light hors d’ oeuvres and learn how to make a selection of CBD cocktails.
