GRC students learn about dangers, consequences of risky behaviors

In the George Rogers Clark High School library, freshmen lined up to take turns walking a straight line while wearing “drunk goggles,” giggling as they struggled.

But Winchester Police Detective Steve Charles was quick to remind students while the simulation seems fun, the consequences of driving while impaired and the dangers of alcohol are not.

GRC freshmen learned about the dangers of alcohol drug use and the potential ramifications of substance abuse during the Truth and Consequences reality fair Friday.

The fair was put together by the Clark County Extension Office, local law enforcement and first responders, representatives from the courts and more.

Students rotated to different sessions throughout the morning. They listened to testimonies from people who struggled with drug abuse at one station and received assigned fictional scenarios based on choices they could make that led them to speak with medical, legal and other professionals about the potential consequences at another station.
