The Clark County Board of Education discussed the possibility of establishing a Hall of Fame committee in its special meeting Tuesday.
Supt. Paul Christy said with the new athletic facilities, a Hall of Fame committee could be a great way to involve the community and the George Rogers Clark High School alumni.
The proposed committee would select former athletes, coaches and others who have made an impact on local athletics to honor.
“It’s an opportune time to be able to start some new things and change the way we do things,” Christy said.
Board Chair Gordon Parido said he would like to ensure a Hall of Fame committee could include the schools that came before GRC such as Clark County High School, Oliver Street School and Winchester High School.
“I do want to make sure that whatever we do, we can find some way to recognize those people from Clark County High School, Winchester High School, Oliver Street School… those schools that came together to make GRC,” Parido said.
Parido said other districts have a Hall of Fame, and the concept is past due in Clark County.
Board member Bill Taulbee said he thinks a Hall of Fame induction could be special.
“I don’t think we should limit it to honoring them at a game with a plaque,” Taulbee said. “I think we should have an awards banquet.”
The board will reconvene for its regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 19.
