Sun staff report
On Monday, the Sun welcomed Seth Littrell to its staff.
Littrell will be covering local education in addition to being the newsroom’s staff photographer.
He will fill the role left by Steve Foley, who will leave the Sun staff Sept. 15 to return to the Petoskey News-Review in Michigan along with his wife, Jennifer, who served as advertising director for the four Bluegrass News Media properties.
Littrell is a 2013 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a B.A. in journalism with a political science minor. Littrell worked at The Eastern Progress, EKU’s student newspaper, for several years as a reporter, editor and photographer.
He comes to the Sun from The State Journal in Frankfort, where he worked as a reporter and photographer until eventually being promoted to assistant editor and overseeing the newsroom’s daily operations.
He has also worked at the Richmond Register as a local government reporter and photographer, covering city and county governments and breaking news.
Littrell grew up in Independence and now resides in Richmond with his girlfriend, Sarah Heaney, their two-year-old son, Garrett, and Heaney’s six-year-old son John.
Littrell said he is eager to get started covering the news in Winchester and Clark County.
“I’m excited to be in Winchester and hope I can hit the ground running,” he said. “I am a community journalist at heart and look forward to covering the local issues here that have a daily impact on Clark County residents”
Sun editor Whitney Leggett said she is excited about the talent Seth brings to the newsroom.
“Having worked with Seth at the Progress, I know he brings a variety of valuable news skills to the table,” Leggett said. “He is a passionate journalist with several years of experience in photography, reporting and editing. I trust he will be able to keep up with the high quality and quantity of local news coverage that has become expected our staff. We are excited to have him and think he will be an asset to our company and the community.”
