Seniors Maleaha Bell and Hayley Harrison were recognized for their hard work and were named to the All-Region Teams.

Harrison was named to First Team and Bell was named to Third Team.

Bell suffered an injury in the district championship against Bourbon County after going up for a layup and took a hard fall after being fouled, which led to her being carried off the court on a stretcher.

She said the hard fall scared her more than anything but nothing serious was injured.

“When I hit the wall it made my back and legs go numb and tingly,” she said. “Everything came back fine. I needed to rest up and now I’m ready to come back and I’ll be ready for the first game in region.”

Bell said she is proud of herself for making the team.

“It’s a big honor since its my first time on All-Region,” she said. “I was very happy when I found out I made it.”

Harrison said the award couldn’t have came at a better time.

“It’s a great honor especially since it’s my senior year,” she said. “I want to represent my team and community well while going out with a bang.”

Bell said she has worked extremely hard for this honor although it was not necessarily a goal she was aiming for.

“I’ve had to spend countless hours in the gym,” she said. “I’ve spent time shooting before and after practice and I’ve gone to the gym on our days off.”

Harrison said she also spent a lot of time in the gym on days off.

“I’ve worked really hard,” she said. “I get in the gym after practice or when we have days off to work on my shot and stay in shape.”

Bell said she brings many different aspects to the court which has allowed her to receive this achievement.

“Rebounding and my defensive abilities are what I’m best at,” she said. “I’m able to take on a bigger defender and take them to rim. I can also post up smaller guards and score on them.”

Harrison said it’s no secret what she’s good at.

“When we need a bucket I’ll get us one,” she said.

Bell said she wouldn’t be nearly half the player she is without the support of her teammates.

“They push me every day and allow me to be my best,” she said. “I push them to do their best also so we’ve always been on the same page when it comes to winning and giving it our best.”

Bell said her team will have to work together as one to be successful in region.

“We have to stay together,” she said. “We have to play like we know how and go out there and dominate. We know what it takes to do that so we just have to do it.”

Harrison said her teammates and herself have to understand their strengths and weaknesses on the court to feed off each other.

“We all have to know and understand our roles,” she said. “We all need to have the same goal and I believe we do.”
