Robert D. Campbell Jr. High cheerleading team finished first place in the division and Bluegrass Conference champs.
The team has had a busy, successful year since the season started in June of last summer.
The cheerleaders won regionals in November and placed seventh out of 16 teams in the state competition.
Head coach Kristie Tirey said she can’t even put into words how thrilled she is.
“I am very proud,” she said. “It’s what you ask for as a coach. We want them to work hard and go to competitions and do well. We hit our goal for the year and worked hard to set goals to win conference and region. I’m very proud of them for their accomplishments for sure.”
Tirey said her team has had to work hard for their accomplishments and nothing has came easy.
We practice four nights a week,” she said. “On top of cheering for basketball and football teams to support our school sports, they work hard. They are a great group of girls and they are hardworking girls which is all we can ask for as a coach.”
Tirey said the cheerleading team sets the tone for future George Rogers Clark cheerleaders and this season has helped them head into the right direction.
“For me as a middle school coach, I feel like my job is the fill the program for future cheerleaders,” she said. “We set the goal to build a strong program for the future of GRC. So having a strong program for the middle school team sets the bar for teams down the road.”
