Seventh-grader Caden Spicer plays basketball, baseball, football and soccer and has been playing basketball since he was six years old.
Spicer admits if he was only allowed to play one sport, he would choose baseball.
“My dad has taught me baseball my whole life,” he said. “I love playing it. It makes me happy.”
Spicer said his skills on offense are what he feels most comfortable with in his game.
“I’m a good three-point shooter,” he said. “I’m also a good passer. I’m always able to find open teammates.”
Spicer wants to shift his focus onto what he thinks is his weakest part.
“My defense needs improvement,” he said. “I have to keep the ball in front of me and get faster.”
Spicer feels more confident in his baseball skills than basketball.
“Pitching and hitting are my strong points,” he said. “I feel more comfortable doing those than I do in some parts of basketball. My fielding needs more work though, I need to cut down on the errors.”
Spicer wears no. 13 and wanted to choose a different number originally, but wasn’t given the option to do so.
“I wanted no. 22,” he said. “It is my dad’s old number and it means a lot to me. They didn’t let me pick this year.”
Spicer said his entire family is the reason why he stays motivated and committed to do well.
“Not only my parents, but my whole family is the reason,” he said. “They make me feel good about myself. They don’t put me down when I have a bad grade or anything. They give me a lot of confidence in myself.”
Spicer enjoys listening to rap music to get him pumped up for games or on an off day.
“Lil Uzi Vert and Kodak Black are my favorite artists,” he said. “Anyone else that is in that category I will listen to them, too.”
