The parents charged with neglecting and not seeking medical care for their Down Syndrome son pleaded guilty to reckless homicide Thursday afternoon.

Albert Christy, 61, and his wife Patsy, 65, were both arrested in February on murder charges for the death of their son Logan.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Logan died on Dec. 12, 2017. At the time of his death, Logan weighed 61 pounds. The autopsy report said he died from malnutrition, dehydration and pneumonia.

In Clark Circuit Court Thursday, the Christys pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of reckless homicide and agreed to a five-year prison sentence.

“I feel guilty because I should have taken him to the doctor,” Patsy Christy told Clark Circuit Judge Brandy Oliver Brown. “I just failed.”

Albert Christy agreed they had not taken Logan to the doctor since he turned 18 and did not provide adequate nutrition.

The autopsy also showed there was nothing in Logan’s stomach at the time of his death.

The Christys were arrested after the final autopsy report was received, Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue said. According to the arrest warrants, Logan’s room was “unsuitable for anyone to live in.”

The Christys are scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 10, 2019.
