BOA rules in Stuff complaint

The Winchester-Clark County Board of Adjustments unanimously approved a motion Thursday to prohibit Stuff Recycling from extending its business past the front of the building.

Chairman Zeldon Angel said the board found Stuff had expanded recycling past the front of the building.

In 2012, the board addressed a similar concern and the chairman at the time had expressed concern the recycling business may move closer to the road.

Angel said the board does not want that and made the motion to prohibit recycling from being extended past the front of the building.

The board also determined storage, recycling materials and containers on the ground are accessory to recycling and are also prohibited.

Winchester resident Tresa Bridges had filed a complaint against Stuff Recycling in regards to its land use.

In 2012, the planning commission grandfathered the property as B-4 with the condition that its operations do not expand beyond the current 10-acre site.

Stuff Recycling had also requested a zoning change for a property the company intended to buy on Clintonville Road.

Stuff owner Jerry Joiner later said the company decided not to buy the property because of complaints and concerns from adjacent property owners.

After more than three hours of testimony at a public hearing last week, the BOA had tabled action on the matter in order to fully review all the information available.
