GRC students recognized by Youth Salute

George Rogers Clark High School students were among those recognized by the annual Central Kentucky Youth Leadership Council’s “Youth Salute.” There were 42 GRC students among the 830 selected.

Several students from GRC will be featured in The Sun weekly.

Jordyn’s accomplishments include 2017 Salvation Station camp counselor, 2016 and 2017 Dance Blue mini marathon participant, helped Girl Scout with Gold Project, 2017 football manager, GRC concert and symphonic band, GRC marching band and nursery worked at Bryan Station Baptist Church. Jordyn plans to attend University of Kentucky and earn a degree to become a labor and delivery nurse.

JULIA CLAIRE GRAVES

Julie’s accomplishments include 2017 HOBY ambassador, Beta Club class officer, cross country team leader, Wesley Woods Camp junior counselor, Jesus Prom, National Honors Society, HOSA, 2017 Autism Speaks 5K participant and a referee for Special Olympics. Julia hopes to become a pediatric nurse.

KATLYN HALL

Katlyn’s accomplishments include National FFA organization, Clark County FFA Agriculture Promotions Committee chairperson, Clark County FFA Stakeholder Engagement Committee chairperson, Bluegrass Region FFA delegate, National Honor Society and Smoke Signals news production. Katlyn plans to major in animal science and would like to be a veterinarian.

KAYLI STRANGE

Kayli’s accomplishments include Green Hand degree in Clark County FFA, National FFA Organization, sales director at Clark County Beta Club, Beta Club induction night award, Get Rowdy Crew, Cardinal Nets, Dance Blue, nominated and present a check for Clark County at the University of Kentucky Dance Blue, Project Lead the Way and HOSA. Kayli plans to major in veterinary science at either Eastern Kentucky University of University of Kentucky.

KAYLYN HAGEDORN

Kaylyn’s accomplishments include Beta Club, Beta Club member award, FCCLA, Clark County Scholars, French Club, Smoke Signals, children’s church teacher, STRIDE volunteer, 5K volunteer for recovery and Beer Cheese Festival volunteer.

LAUREN BRINEGAR

Lauren’s accomplishments include Clark County junior fair board member, captain of GRC color guard, National Honors Society, media staff for Smoke Signals, Beta Club, Clark County FFA Environmental, Economic Development and Alumni Committee chairperson, junior class vice president, Clark County FFA treasurer, most outstanding award for GRC color guard and Star Green Hand award in Clark County FFA. Lauren plans to major in neonatal nursing in hopes to take the place of nurses who helped her when she was a premature infant.

LEAH JACOBY

Leah’s accomplishments include fist flute in GRC concert band from 2015-16, Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer, National Honors Society, Young Democrats Club, most outstanding musician in concert band and Top 10 in class. Leah plans to major in pre-medicine biology and aims to be a psychiatrist or clinical neuroscientist.

LUKE MARTIN

Luke’s accomplishments include earning Eagle Scout rank in 2017, principal’s award in 2016-17, Beta Club, Y Club, National Honors Society, French Honors Society, GRC tennis team, all-state chorus, Boy Scout Troop 56 member and youth group at Fellowship of Believers Church. Luke’s college plans are undecided, but he plans to pursue a career in urban planning and/or civil engineering.

MACKENZIE CROWL

Mackenzie’s accomplishments include Beta Club, National Honors Society, KHSAA academic all-state, GRC swim team, World Language Showcase state competition participate, Fine Arts Cohort, Young Democrats, HOSA, KYA and North East Christian Church youth group. Mackenzie is undecided on her college plans, but would like to major in kinesiology and work as a physical therapist.

MCKENZIE WILSON

McKenzie’s accomplishments include Beta Club, Dance Blue, GRC marching band color guard, Cardinal Nets, free babysitting in her neighborhoods, volunteer to feed homeless at church, helps teachers by tut origin during class, nominated and presented check for Dance Blue, Get Rowdy Crew and Project Lead the Way. McKenzie plans to major in biology and move to the coast to study marine life.

MELANIE MANNS

Melanie’s accomplishments include 2015 40th District all-tournament team, GRC volleyball team captain, Dig Pink volunteer, Junior Civilian Club president, junior PRC for Civilian Club, Junior Civilian Appalachian District governor nominee, HOSA and Beta Club. Melanie plans to major in biology and be a nurse anesthetist.

MICHAELA TOLLIVER

Michaela’s accomplishments include Beta Club, National Honor Society, Cardinal Nets, Dance Blue, babysitting and AP classes. Michaela plans to major in biomedical sciences and would enjoy working in the medical field.

MICHELLE YANG

Michelle’s accomplishments include National Honor Society, Beta Club, Y Club, advanced placement scholar with honors, National Piano Playing Auditions international member and four-time Clark County Spelling Bee winner. Michelle plans to major in business and engineering and is unsure about her career plans.

NATALIE ANDERSON

Natalie’s accomplishments include GRC volleyball team, all 3.5 to 4.0 GPA awards in high school, Beta Club, National Honors Society, HOSA, worship leader at Winchester First United Methodist Church, community service volunteer with Central Baptist, Teddy Bear Clinic volunteer, bell ringing for HOSA, Generations Center volunteer and Wesley Woods Camp counselor. Natalie is planning to pursue her education at a Kentucky college and wants to become a pediatric nurse.
