Thursday’s Local History Potluck Dinner Program will feature a topic that resonates with most Kentuckians: bourbon.

The presenters will be Blair and Elliott Hess, one of the writers and the photographer for a new book called, “The State of Bourbon: Exploring the Spirit of Kentucky,” published by Indiana University Press and Red Lightning Books.

Many local history fans will remember Blair and her travel book-writing associate, Cameron Ludwick, spoke during Local History Week 2016. At that time, their topic was their first book, “My Old Kentucky Road Trip.” In that book, they mapped out travels to historical, unique and unusual places in Kentucky and told interesting stories about their experiences.

For Thursday’s program, Blair and Hess will give an inside look at the production of their new book. It is due out in August.

They’ll talk about how they plan their trips to gather facts and photographs. You can get tips about constructing travelogues. This program is free and open to the public.

Bring a dish and join your Local History friends for the potluck at 6:30 p.m. or you may join the program at 6:50 p.m. if you prefer not to partake of the potluck.

Either way, to ensure you have a seat, call for a reservation at 859-744-5661 or register using the Evanced online registration system accessed from the library’s website, www.clarkbooks.org.

While you are at the Local History program, take time to view the “All Together Now” photography show hanging on the walls of the Rose Mary Codell Brooks Community room.

Friends and family members took all the pictures in the show, and there are images from the 1970s to the present.

You will see lots of friends and neighbors, and the images will bring back great memories.

If you can’t attend the Local History Potluck, the photography show is open to the public during regular library hours when the community room is not in use by a scheduled group. If the community room door is closed when a group is not using the room, please go to the circulation desk and ask a librarian to open it for you.

It’s a beautiful exhibit of everyday life in Winchester. It will only be on display until the end of July, so come in to see it soon.

— At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Tim Janes leads a special Library Reading Group on Robert Penn Warren’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “All the King’s Men.” People in the area have been reading “All the King’s Men” this summer because the Kentucky Humanities Council chose it as their Kentucky Reads selection. Join a local discussion right here at the library.

— At 2 p.m.Wednesday, Kentucky Picture Show presents a 2018 film about a young autistic woman who runs away from her caregiver to boldly go and deliver a 500-page Star Trek script to a writing competition in Hollywood. On an adventure full of laughter and tears, Wendy follows the guiding spirit of Mr. Spock on her journey into the unknown. Rated PG-13.

— At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Trivia Night at the Engine House Pizza Pub. Who put the bop in the bop-she-bop-she-bop?

— At 10 a.m. Friday, Write Local, a group that continues to put the bop in the bop-she-bop-she-bop.

— At 9 a.m. Saturday, Yoga on the Library Lawn. Dress in loose comfy clothes, bring your yoga mat and let your heart shine!

— From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Outside the Lines Adult Coloring. Make a rainbow.

Every week is a good week to visit the library.
