Two of the suspects in last week’s shooting in Winchester pleaded not guilty Monday to their charges.
Grmyko Deshawn Chenault, 25, of Lexington and 26-year-old Alexssandra Chenault of Winchester, were reportedly in one vehicle while the victim, Temetrius Stewart, and Armonty English and Elyna Hooten were in the other.
Monday afternoon, Clark District Judge Brandy Oliver Brown entered automatic not-guilty pleas for both Chenaults and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Feb. 14.
Grmyko Chenault is charged with first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. Alexssandra Chenault was charged with complicity to first-degree assault for allegedly driving Grmyko to the scene.
Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said the shooting occurred around 4 p.m. Jan. 31 following a verbal altercation between two carloads of people near the Tyler Banks apartment complex.
In court documents, police said 26 shots were fired during the incident. Grmyko Chenault allegedly opened fire on the other vehicle. Stewart was shot once and received a non-life threatening wound to his head.
Stewart’s vehicle left the scene and was later involved in an accident on West Lexington Avenue. Witnesses said they saw English, who was a passenger in Stewart’s vehicle, remove a firearm and hide it, but police recovered the weapon.
English, 19, was charged with tampering with physical evidence. He is free on bond and is scheduled to be arraigned March 12 in Clark District Court.
Both Chenaults are held in the Clark County Detention Center. Grmyko Chenault’s bond was set at $500,000 while Alexssandra Chenault’s is $100,000.
