Winchester Municipal Utilities’ Hampton Manor sewer project is now 60 percent completed according to WMU General Manager Mike Flynn.

The project includes the installation of 3,158 feet of 24-inch, gravity fed sewer line, 36 feet of 12-inch line, 117 feet of 8-inch line and 250 feet of 6-inch line.

The goal of the project is to eliminate two sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) identified in a consent decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Twenty-seven SSOs were initially identified in the decree. Of those identified, 19 have already been eliminated by WMU projects, Flynn said. After the completion of the Hampton Manor project, only six SSOs will remain.

The project has a construction project deadline of July 31, 2019.

“The project is well ahead of schedule,” Flynn said in a report to commissioners. “I’ve been very pleased with the contractor’s work.
