The 5th annual Earth Day Celebration will occur on Saturday, April 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in recognition of the day celebrated worldwide to support environmental protection.

Eighteen different community booths will be present, including the Kentucky Division of Forestry, Habitat for Humanity of Madison and Clark Counties, Stuff Recycling, Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s Biotechnology Program, Clark County Cooperative Extension, Kentucky Riverkeeper, Bluegrass Greensource, Winchester Inspired by Nature, the Kentucky Native Plant Society, and more.

Each will interact with and provide information to visitors, who can also enjoy free food provided by the Clark County Farm Bureau, coffee by The Daily Grind, live music, and family-friendly activities.

In addition, Woodsy Owl—the iconic mascot of the US Forest Service dedicated to promoting conservation—will be present.

A first-of-its-kind Sustainable Fashion Show will begin at 12:30, with participants including Tree Shine Designs, Mikeal’A, Kandy Castle, and Sophia Ortiz.

“I have different [creators] coming out to show their upcycled, recycled, thrifted, knitted creations,” said Anna Campomanes, event and marketing coordinator for Legacy Greenscapes. “That’s all about sustainable and slow fashion.”

While it won’t be as soon, individuals can also look forward to the Legacy Nights Concert Series returning to Legacy Grove Park.

Thanks to its stellar reputation, it’s a must-have for this spring, summer, and fall.

“I don’t know if the community would let us get away with not having Legacy Nights,” said Campomanes in jest. “I think it’s one of the more popular concert series in Winchester…we’re happy to do it again!”

The concert series, which takes place on the second Tuesday of each month, runs from May through October.

The Yellow Dog Jazz Band will perform on May 13, Precious Perez on June 10, Vudu Childe on July 8, 10:50 Arrival on August 12, Melanie A. Davis & the Madness on September 9, and Leeds Rock University on October 14.

In addition to the music, various nonprofit organizations will return, and food and drink vendors will be present.

Returnees include Mama D’s Eat and Treats LLC, Cookies & Cream, and more.

Several of the events will also be more thematic.

“On May 13 and September 9, we’re highlighting craft vendors. On October 14, we’re [going to] do a little more dog-intensive activities,” Campomanes added. “July 8 will be kids’ night, and August is nonprofit night.”

Campomanes concluded by stating that there’s much room for excitement.

“What I hope is that whatever people walk away with when they attend…it all kind of…adds up to making our community a better place,” she said. “That’s why we do what we do.”
